How to Make the Job Easier on Your Roofing Contractor

When you hire a roofing contractor, you get to step back and let them handle the hardest parts of the roof replacement process, from the tear-off to laying down new shingles. They're the professionals, and they have the training, knowledge, and experience necessary to get these things done. But that doesn't mean you should just disappear the day before your roof is due to be replaced. There are some things you can do to make things easier for your roofing contractor, which will help ensure your project gets done well and on time.

Alert the neighbors.

A couple of days before your roof replacement is scheduled to begin, knock on your neighbors' doors, and just give them a head's up that you're about to have your roof done. This gives them a chance to make sure they park their cars out of the way so the roofers can get their large trucks and dumpster in. It also ensures they know to keep their dogs constrained and keep a closer eye on their kids while the roofers are working. Your roofers will appreciate not having to wait for people to move cars when they arrive, and they won't have to waste time waiting for a dog to move before they toss some scraps into the dumpster.

Move your patio furniture and other yard items.

If there is anything left in your yard, your roofers will either have to move it or cover it with plastic before they start working on your roof. This prevents shingle dust and nails from ruining your possessions. If you do this part before your roofers arrive, you'll save them time. They can get right to work, and they won't have to navigate around your patio table. If you don't have a lot of space to store your yard items and patio furniture, consider asking a neighbor if you can borrow some space in their garage for a few days.

Verify what you want.

A week or two before your roofers are scheduled to begin working in your home, call the company and ask them to run through the work they're going to do and the materials they are going to use. If there's anything that's not quite right, this gives the roofers time to correct it and order the necessary materials. This way, they won't have to delay during your project because you decided, for instance, that you wanted more vents added after the fact.

If you do all of the above, you will make things easy on your residential roofing contractors and should quickly become one of their favorite customers.
